Result Adjusted mean change in the Functional Outcomes of Sleep Questionnaire total score after the first 8-week period was 0.89 with CPAP (n=113) versus -0.06 with sham (n=110), p=0.006 — an effect size of 0.41 (95% CI 0.14 to 0.67).

Continuous positive airway pressure treatment improves the functional outcome of sleepy patients with mild and moderate obstructive sleep apnoea.

How it has aged

Defines the indication that the cardiovascular trials never threatened. SAVE and Barbe 2012 deliberately enrolled non-sleepy patients and found no event reduction; CATNAP enrolled sleepy ones and found they felt and functioned better. Symptoms are the reason to treat.
